Pink Easter

Easter sunrise glows on the San Jacinto Mountains

Easter Morning....The warm desert wind woke me up early enough to see the moon setting.

Petrale in the Desert

Dinner in the Airstream....
We try to cook as many items as possible outside, especially meat and fish.  I like to keep the menu healthy but simple so we don't have too many dishes, pots, pans to clean.
Before we left Humboldt,  I vacuum packed about 10 lbs of super fresh, just off the boat petrale sole.  This 2 serving package got topped with  capers, olive oil, white wine, meyer lemon from the tree outside, salt, pepper.

Russet potatoes tossed with diced onions, dried mustard, salt, pepper...
We have a small refrigerator with a separate freezer.  I don't buy too many items from Costco anymore because we don't have the space to store it.  These Costco frozen organic mixed vegetables are pretty good, simple to cook and versatile in many recipes.

Full moon rising!

Mojave National Preserve

Celebrating our wedding anniversary (St. Patricks Day) sometimes includes a trip to Las Vegas.  From Palm Springs there are several ways to get there.  We chose to forgo the interstates and took the much less traveled road north through Mojave National Preserve.  If you do this drive, fill up with gas and bring lots of water.  It's 1.6 million acres of volcanic cinder domes and mountains, sand dunes and a magical joshua tree forest.

Formed by blowing golden rose quartz crystals from dried lake beds, the isolated Kelso Sand Dunes rise 600' from the high desert.  You can take a dirt road out there to hike on the trails.
The roller coaster road went on for hours....speed limit 55 but who is checking? Weeeeeeee
We had to google these to make sure, but yes, they are Joshua Trees, and we were driving through the world's largest concentration of them, all in bloom with white flower tips.  Not the best picture, but they are growing across the valley up to the bottom of yonder mountain.
Heading south back to Palm Springs...

Desert Golf...

After one month in the Coachella Valley, we finally get out on the golf course located about 10 feet from our Airstream.   I guess we have been pretty busy looking for our "Winter" home.

Only $12 to play 18 holes!  As you can see, the view is spectacular.  I've never played a par 3 course but we had a great time honing our iron and putting skills.
California poppies and petunias everywhere....(and rv's)

You don't want to know how perfect the weather is this week.....

Room with an ever changing view...

Oh....and did I mention how much I love this bedroom with the palm tree and mountain view!

Airstream Artwork...

I commissioned my hubby to create this lovely and lightweight piece for the airstream. I "borrowed" the picture in the middle from a magazine.  Held up by 3M fasteners.  The only way I can put art, hooks or organizers up without drilling the walls. It stayed up for the 800 mile trip down here...

Palm Springs Museum....

People who live in glass houses shouldn't.........unless you live in Palm Springs!

Costco in the desert....

You'd think they would just round it up to 16K.  LOL, Palm Desert Costco....  We passed on this but did buy two tennis racquets, two tennis/golf skirts (have to keep up with my golfing sister Lisa) and some Kirkland tequila!

Modernism Week Palm Springs * February 2013

Modernism Week in Palm Springs...an annual celebration of arts, architecture, fashion, cocktails
and everything mid-century modern.
Some of the events were held here at the Palm Springs Convention Center.

Palm Springs Convention Center (and little me, dressed in mid-century orange)

Tons of mid-century furniture here for sale at really high prices!

I volunteered for this event (selling tickets) and Jim scmoozed and enjoyed the cocktails and the rat-pack ambiance.
Enjoying the poolside cocktail party at the William Cody designed Del Marcos Hotel.

Another Moderism event....a house tour located near the town of Joshua Tree.  Blu homes (Bay Area) designed modern desert digs for the Disney family.

View from downtown Palm Springs in February.....
Lunch at Acqua Pazza in Rancho Mirage....

Vintage Trailer Show...mostly Airstreams but other really cute trailers.  Met many other "Airstreamers"

Settled in for a couple months...Palm Springs

Love the bedroom view from our site.  If I wake up early enough, I can see San Jacinto Peak (10,800 ft) glow pink at sunrise.  The bright light from the tram station at the top is also visible.  The Palm Springs Aerial tram holds 80 people and rotates as it climbs to about 8500 ft.  I'm thinking I'll save that trip for March when it warms up a little more on the mountain.

Cute little Airstream!  We are right on the golf course which is lovely early in the morning.

The snow has almost melted, days are in the 80's lately.

Back yard...It will be filled with golfers in an hour!

Lake Cahuilla is very romantic...

Lake Cahuilla...a cute little county park near La Quinta.  We had water and electric hookups.  No sewer, but for a couple days it is fine.  They do have a dump station there.  This was a friendly place, with great mountain views and an international group of people.   Campfires are allowed and at night it's desert magic with the fires, crickets, the natural desert campground and the coyotes howling at the moon.
Jimmy firing up the new travel sized charcoal grill for a Valentines Day steak dinner.

Table for two...
